Brand New: Zelienople's "Ink":

In the summer of 2005, Zelienople released "Ink" as a limited number of 100 CDR release on Finland's 267 Lattajjaa label. The 100 CDR run soon sold out and we are proud to offer a CD re-release this month.

"Ink" was recorded live on 2 separate days in April and May of 2005 with most of the sounds created by invented instruments : tuned suspension cables, artillery shell, ski bass, spring box.

Press on "Ink":

"A few spaces away from Zoviet France, and not just alphabetically: like those cryptic British experimentalists, this local quartet is fond of drones, disembodied sounds, live-to-tape recording, and looming ambience. The gro! up employs guitars and tuned suspension cables among other instruments on the album, but damned if I can tell which is which." - Chicago Reader

"Beautiful songs in dazed slow-motion and heavy lidded creaking drones..." - Boa Melody Bar

"Zelienople have concocted a rich and virtually flawless album. On "Life is Simple," it sounds as though they repeat the lyric "In the minor leagues" over and over. I can safely say this is a band no longer stuck below. They've hit it out of the park with this one. Ink is one of 2005's best albums to get completely lost in. 9/10" - Foxy Digitalis

"Ink is a leap forward for the band and validates their strategic shift in technique. By increasing the immediacy and inventiveness of their recordings, Zelienople has declared that they are ready to up the intensity and confront listeners with an expanded arsenal while still maintaining a consistent aesthetic. It's the kind of move many artists never make and reveals a predeliction for adventure I'll be listening for wherever it takes them next. 10/12" - Delusions of Adequacy

"This is harmonically and texturally challenging drone music packed with so much emotion and darkly seducing beauty that it sucks me in time after time. Recommended." - Broken Face

Out Now: The Cricket! Rumor Mill's "If Only Then":

Still new to the shelves is The Cricket Rumor Mill's 2nd full-length, "If Only Then".

"This instrumental post-rock trio creates a whole spectrum of enveloping moods -- from breezy to blue -- without ever seeming to break a sweat. On their second LP they play hide-and-seek with Americana ("Country Midwestern"), break out the horns for a parping faux-jazz number ("When Eyedrops Were Animals"), and relax by the pool with some serene world pop ("Events Unfold"). The songs never take any surprising turns, but they're intricately composed and delicately played." - Chicago Reader

"The breezy instrumentals on If Only Then go down easier than a Zima – they’re refreshing and without that bitter guitar instrumental taste...When piano, strings, and drum machines buttress what are often endlessly repeated guitar lines, the songs assume an exp! ansive quality that makes their laid-back aura all that much more palatable." - Delusions of Adequacy

"the group often proves quite adept at suddenly but subtly shifting their songs into more unexpected but nevertheless delightful territories, revealing their music to be much more layered and intricate than previously thought." - Opus
